Why is Dry Fruit Laddu Healthy?

One of the most underrated food families is dried fruits. Since here we are talking about Dry fruit laddu which contains almonds, cashews, raisins, walnuts, pistachios, dates and apricots, let's dive into the nutritional benefits of these nuts in particular. Though all of them are nourishing and healthy, each comes with its own unique health benefits.

Almonds: It is incredibly easy to enjoy almonds any time of the day, as a healthy alternative to conventional snacking options. Almonds have no cholesterol and are high in antioxidants. They are known to provide relief from constipation, respiratory issues and heart disorders, besides being great for hair, skin and teeth.

Cashews: Nuts such as cashews contain vitamins E and B6 as well as many other health benefits. In addition, they add flavour and texture to a variety of dishes.

Raisins: They are more or less dehydrated grapes and are used in both sweet and savoury recipes. In addition to being good for health, they reduce acidity and aid digestion. They are natural sweeteners without any side effects.

Walnuts: Shelled walnuts contain a high level of nutrients. A powerful source of Omega-3 fatty acids as well as dietary fibre, protein, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, they are hailed as one of the healthiest among the nuts.

Pistachios: Phytochemicals in pistachios reduce levels of bad cholesterol in the body, making them good for the heart. Additionally, they promote immunity and help in controlling sugar levels.

Dates: They are a good addition to a wide variety of sweet dishes, but they can also be eaten as they are. The dry fruit is rich in vitamins, proteins, minerals and natural sugar and is believed to provide relief from constipation, apart from treating anaemia.

Apricots: Among other nutrients, apricots contain potassium, vitamin E, and copper and supply 47% of your daily vitamin A needs. All antioxidant vitamins (A and C) protect cells from free radical damage. Vitamin E is no different. The importance of this increases in summer when the sun's rays are at their strongest. It is beneficial to the skin, eyes, and immune system to consume dried apricots.

Dry Fruit Laddu Uses and Benefits

Dry Fruit Laddu can prove to be a boon to the large population suffering from blood pressure or cholesterol. The dietary restrictions on this group are many. The major portion of the diet which is recommended is simply the food that does not increase the blood pressure or cholesterol. Except for perhaps the raw vegetable salad, none of them is remedial or helps to cure. Dry fruit laddu is one of the few snacks that can actually help people "reduce" cholesterol and blood pressure. Many pieces of evidence prove that consumption of nuts like walnuts, pistachios, macadamias, pecans, cashews, almonds, hazelnuts and Brazil nutshelps lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides when hypertriglyceridemia exist. Hypertriglyceridemia is a condition when the fat level in the blood is higher which might lead to heart attack or other heart diseases. Dry fruit laddu is loaded with these very goodies which actually help reduce the hypertriglyceridemia.

Added to all this, dry fruits helps in maintaining eye health. Nuts like almonds and cashews are also rich in omega 3 fatty acids. It also contains nutrients like calcium magnesium, vitamin D12, vitamin B6, phosphorus and folate. These help in making the bones stronger. Raisins or Kismis are a good source of fibre, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Constipation is relieved, anaemia is prevented, bones are built and maintained, and teeth are protected. We pack all this power in our dry fruit laddu without messing it with heat through cooking or adding any preservatives.

Is dry fruit laddu good for weight loss?

Yes, absolutely yes. The major challenge that many of us are facing is the issue of being overweight. Blame it on sedentary lifestyle or genes, the fact is that being overweight is the first step towards ill health and low energy levels. Dry fruit laddu can help in reducing weight as many dry fruits help in enhancing the metabolism which in turn helps to burn the fat easily. The high fibre content also helps weight loss. These humble looking seeds are in real powerhouses with very high nutritional value. Both contribute to the loss of weight. Calorie watchers appreciate this snack as it serves as an alternate sweet that can satiate the sweet tooth without throwing us into pangs of guilt!. It is also infused with nutrients, as it is derived from dry fruits. Aside from being rich in vitamin E, iron, magnesium, and beta carotene, dry fruits also contain other nutrients.

Why is sugar or Jaggery or even honey not used in Dry Fruit Laddu?

Sugar has been known to cause rather harmful effects on health, especially to diabetics. It is also not advised for people who are trying to lose weight. Jaggery is a condensed form of fructose and almost carries all the components of sugar. It is therefore as bad as sugar. Honey is an animal product that is again avoided in Sampoorna products.

Why is Ghee not used in the Dry fruit Laddu?

Ghee is clarified butter, which means that the milk solids have been removed. Ghee is used in Indian cooking because it has a higher smoke point than regular butter. However, ghee contains saturated fat, which increases cholesterol levels. High cholesterol is linked to heart disease. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the India. Though many of the sweets are made with Ghee, Sampoorna does not add ghee to the array of the sweets that it provides.

Why is Ghee bad for health?

Ghee is made from butter that has been heated until it becomes liquid. It is used in cooking and as a medicine. However, ghee is high in saturated fat and cholesterol. Saturated fat is not good for the heart because it can clog up arteries. Cholesterol levels should be kept low by eating foods rich in fibre or protein.

Ghee is almost half saturated fat. Saturated fats are unhealthy fats that are usually found in meats and dairy products. Eating too many saturated fats can raise bad cholesterol levels and increase your risk of heart disease and strokes. Nearly half of ghee's fat is saturated.

Meat and dairy products usually contain this unhealthy fat. When consumed in excess, saturated fats raise levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol, creating a risk for heart disease and stroke.
